Movies and Shows You Missed the First Time Around
It’s getting to be that time of the year, when it’s too hot to be outside and the network television shows are about to end. That is when it’s time to go to the video store, rent some DVDs and catch up on some shows and movies that you may have missed the first time around. There are a lot of great television shows and movies that did not get the amount of viewers they deserved. Check them out, you may find a new favorite.
30 Rock
How can you go wrong with Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin? You can’t! The show is one of the freshest, funniest shows on television, and Fey proved that she has star material. Also, if you are not aware that Alec Baldwin is one of the funniest actors out there, you need to rent season one and see for yourself. His character is the backbone of the show. He is so funny that you’ll have to pause the DVD so your laughter won’t keep you from hearing the lines in the show. It is a fun show to watch, and you will be able to breeze through the episodes quickly.
Lost
Okay, people have probably been hammering this to you for years, but honestly, if you haven’t watched Lost yet, you are missing out. Start with season one, catch up, and see if you get hooked. Chances are that you will. Lost has a creepy feel to it, and it always leaves the viewer guessing. After a rough patch last season, it is back in full force. If no other reason, watch it for the character of Ben. Forget about Jack, Kate and Sawyer. They just seem like eye candy when put next to the evil complexity of Ben. It’s almost impossible to decide if he’s good or bad. He definitely does evil things, but why he does them is so important when it comes to his character.
Notes on a Scandal
This is a great movie that got overlooked by most of the viewing public. Cate Blanchett stars as a teacher who has an affair with one of her students. Pandemonium ensues. It is a wonderful character study, and also has a bit of a thriller type of plotline mixed in. It’s a great watch for both men and women.
Arlington Road
It may not be current as far as the date the film premiered, but what could possibly be more current than fears of terrorism and fears of the neighbors? Arlington Road is one of the best thrillers of our time. If you missed the Jeff Bridges/Tim Robbins masterpiece, go to the video store and pick it up. It is worth the time. It will stay on your mind for months to come.
If none of these appeals to you, you could always pass the time by doing something crazy, like reading. No, never mind. There’s no need to act irrational. Flip through the channels. Something will surely jump out at you.

I didn’t see Arlington Road, and I love Tim Robbins and Jeff Bridges. Thanks for the reminder.
